In Her Bears' Arms Page 17
His pulse throbbed, and an ache in his cock echoed the pounding beat. She hummed, and he smoothed his hand up her back. He dribbled the slick lubricant over the pucker. She tensed.
“Give her a little attention, Gable. She’s tensing, and I haven’t even started.” Maddox rubbed his fingers over the curve of her buttocks.
“More than happy to.” Gable pressed a kiss to her shoulder.
Her hips tilted and she moaned. Good. If Gable kept her interest, she wouldn’t think too much about what he was doing. Maddox rubbed the lube into the skin around the tight opening. He pressed a finger in and slowly worked some of the slick lube into her. A moan rolled from her, and her muscles tightened on his finger.
Whatever Gable was doing she enjoyed. Hopefully, she didn’t go over the edge. He pulled his finger free and worked more of the liquid into that tight clench. Maybe next time they’d go with the stuff that tingled, but the store didn’t have much selection.
He pushed his finger in and out, before withdrawing and slipping two into her. She arched up against his hand. Was that because of what he was doing, or was Gable driving her crazy with his fingers? He shook his head. It didn’t matter. As long as she enjoyed it, that was great.
He thrust two into her until she rocked on his fingers. He scissored them within her, stretching the tight channel.
“Maddox, is she ready yet? I don’t know how much longer I can hold on with her moving like that.” Gable tightened his hands on her hips. “And damn, she’s squeezing me.”
“I’ll work my way into her. I’ve stretched her, but she still might feel a pinch if she tenses.” Maddox pulled his fingers free.
“I’ll watch her and make sure she’s not in any pain.” Gable nodded.
Maddox eased in behind her and palmed her buttocks before settling the head of his cock to the tight ring. She gasped, and her muscles tensed. He paused, waiting. Not until her muscles loosened.
“Relax, Dixie.” He kissed her shoulder. “Feel Gable’s fingers on you. Soon, we’ll both fill you, but first, I have to get inside. Don’t you want that?”
“Yes.” She drew in a deep breath, before once again resting her head on Gable’s chest.
Maddox edged forward slowly. The head slid into her, and the muscles clenched on him. He gritted his teeth and tipped his head back. Sharp sensation speared through him. Fuck. So good. Pushing deeper would feel so good, but he had to wait until she’d adjusted.
He eased in a little deeper. She bowed back, taking him. A moan rolled from her before she surged down again. He rocked forward and drew back. Gable guided her hips up. Maddox pushed in a little more. Each drive took him closer and closer to the edge. Finally, he sank into her. She squeezed at him, the pressure ripping at the last remnants of his control.
He pulled back, drawing her with him. Gable surged upward, before pulling her down on him. They moved her between them. She tightened on him, those tight tissues clenching. Shivers racked her body. His hips crashed against hers. She cried out.
He drove against her. Fiery currents pulsed through him, and his balls drew up tight to his body. A loud groan rolled through the room, but Maddox continued to thrust into her. Tension built, coiling his muscles tighter. He tensed and drove deep. Fire ripped over his body, searing him. He cried out as he came. Lingering jolts danced across his skin, and he rocked into her savoring the sensation.
He ran his hand over her arm. “Let me catch my breath, and I’ll ease off you, honeybear.”
“I like being pressed between you.” She wriggled. “I’m nice and warm and comfortable. I could go to sleep right here.”
Maddox laughed. “Well, you’d begin feeling the pressure in a little while, though I love being skin to skin with you, too. It’s one of my favorite positions in the world.”
“Mine, too.” Gable nibbled her shoulder. “But we need to wash up and check to see if Micah called us. He’ll be as desperate for you as we were, and any delay will make that worse. And lord, if we miss a call, you might not be able to walk by tomorrow. It would drive his bear insane.”
“I do have to work tomorrow, so that definitely can’t happen.” Dixie sighed. “I guess we better move.”
Chapter Twenty-Two
Knock, knock. Micah glanced up. Who the fuck could that be? They weren’t expecting anyone. On top of that, they’d just gotten back home an hour ago. The only one who knew they were back was John. It was good to be back. Although, staying in a hotel provided a nice little break.
Micah rose from the couch and strolled through the hall to the front door. Better see who it was. Another heavy knock sounded. Well, damn, if they were that impatient, they could just go away.
He checked the peephole. A woman with gray at her temples stood on the porch along with two idiots, one blond, one dark-haired. Damn it, what did Gable’s mother not get about that anyone near them was in danger? He opened the door and stood in the doorway.
“Hi, Abigail, Peter, and Dave.” Micah held onto the door and nodded to Gable’s brother and his brother-in-law. “What can I do for you? We still haven’t caught the person responsible for targeting us.”
Abigail Bere sniffed. “I came to talk with my son, his partners, and his mate. Do you plan to let us in?”
“We’ve told you that it’s not good for you to be near us right now.” Micah exhaled. The woman didn’t listen at all. It was all about what she wanted.
“I’m perfectly safe. See I have two big males with me.” Abigail waved at Peter and Dave.
More like she had two lackeys. Peter did whatever his mother wanted, and Dave was so busy trying to fit into the family that he’d do anything she asked. They didn’t have a brain between them.
“Yes, and that wouldn’t save you if the person followed you home and attacked you in the following days.” Micah shook his head.
“We won’t be attacked. Step out of the way.” Abigail scowled.
“Hey, Micah, what’s taking so long?” Gable stepped into the hall.
“Your mother’s here. Apparently, she’s immune to being followed, stalked, and attacked.” Micah sighed. Damn, they wouldn’t get rid of her easily.
“Mom, the Dads and you agreed to stay away until we’d caught this person. It’s better for everyone involved.” Gable ran his hand through his hair.
“I’m not standing out here on the porch discussing this. You will let us in.” Abigail folded her arms across her chest.
Micah looked back at Gable. It was his mother. His decision. And he’d have to deal with the angry calls and emails.
“You can come in for a few minutes, but this won’t be a long visit. You’ve already put yourself, Peter, and Dave in danger. You can bet I’ll be talking to the Dads about this. You know there's a solid suspicion that they’ll go after those associated with us.” Gable exhaled heavily.
“There’s also a suspicion that someone might be going after you because of someone else.” Abigail rolled her eyes. “You don’t know who would be in danger if they’re near you.”
“Short, Mother. Fifteen minutes at most. And you know Dad and Pops aren’t going to be happy.” Gable clenched his hand and turned. “You two idiots should have talked her out of this.”
Micah stepped back to allow the three of them to enter. Abigail strolled in with a smile on her face. Dave and Peter trailed after her. They might as well be her personal robots. Those two never argued any idiocy she proposed.
Micah shut and locked the door before heading into the living room. This should be interesting. What did the overprotective mama bear come down here for?
“What are you doing, Gable? Don’t you even have a hug for your mother?” Abigail stood at the end of the couch and scowled.
Gable finished working his fingers over the face of his phone. He looked up. “I told you I’d contact the Dads. I just sent them a quick text. Told them I’d tell them more about it after you were on the way home.”
“You didn’t have to do that.” Abigail threw up her hand
s.
“I’m not playing here, Mom. I don’t consider this a smart move, and neither will they.” Gable lowered his phone to his side.
“What did you want to say?” Micah sat down on the end of the couch.
“Aren’t you going to introduce me to your mate?” Abigail glanced at Dixie before she sat down in the chair.
Dixie looked from Abigail to them. She leaned closer, pressing against him from her position in the middle of the couch. A frown curved those lush lips, and her eyes narrowed. That was definitely one confused woman. Understandable. She hadn’t seen Gable’s mother in action. Dixie didn’t know much history about their relationship other than that Gable was the youngest of his family.
“Mom, this is Dixie. She’s a nurse and works in the same hospital that Micah has patients at.” Gable waved from Dixie to his mother. “Dixie, this is my mother, Abigail Bere.”
“So you were born whyr?” Abigail tilted her head.
“Yes, I was.” Dixie nodded.
“So you mix your mate up in this mess, too?” Abigail looked from Micah to Maddox.
Micah forced his lips into a straight line. Figured she’d blame him and Maddox for this. They were her typical scapegoats when anything she didn’t like happened around her son.
“They aren’t mixing me up in anything. Even with the danger, I would have chosen to be with them. The only thing they’re doing is protecting me. What is your problem with Micah and Maddox?” Dixie sat forward.
“They’re mixing my baby up in danger that’s coming after them.” Abigail bolted to her feet.
“Your baby. Do you mean Gable? Because he’s not a baby. He’s a grown man. No one knows who this person is after. It could be all of them. Maybe it’s one of them or perhaps two of them pissed off a woman.” Dixie waved her hand.
Uh-oh. No one challenged Abigail’s relationship with Gable. The woman could be vicious protecting her youngest child. Micah straightened.
“If they cared about him at all, they wouldn’t put him in danger.” Abigail put her hands on her hips.
“Mates and bond partners do not let the others face things alone. They do it together. How would you feel if one of your mates left you because there was danger? How do you think they would feel if you left?” Dixie rose to her feet.
“They’d understand, and so would I.” Abigail took a step toward Dixie. “He’s my baby. He doesn’t need to be in danger because that one hires anyone who can pick up a wrench and that one has patients who died because of him.”
Micah winced. Nice to know what Abigail really felt. Not that it was too much of a surprise. She hadn’t wanted anyone to take away her baby.
“Yeah, right, at least be honest with yourself. You’d feel betrayed. Just like your mates would.” Dixie rolled her eyes. “Why did you come here other than to berate them for supposedly placing your baby in danger? Which isn’t true on the face of it. Mates back each other up, and they have each other’s back. He’s here for them as they are for him.”
“I came here to get my boy. He’s not staying here. I’m not letting him get hurt because of something those two jackasses did.” Abigail straightened.
“I’m not leaving them, Mother. She’s my mate. I’m not going anywhere away from her.” Gable rose and stood beside her.
“You’re coming home. You can come back after they’ve caught the person behind this.” Abigail rolled her shoulders. She lifted her chin and pointed to the floor in front of her. “Come here.”
“No, I’m not leaving with you. It’s past time that you realize I’m not a boy. I’m not your baby. I’m a grown man, and I have a mate that I won’t leave in danger.” Gable put his arm around Dixie.
“Pete, David, go get him. This isn’t the time for him to be stubborn.” Abigail waved.
Peter and David stood. Those two idiots actually intended to try. Micah shook his head.
“You two even try, and you’ll regret it for a long while.” Dixie stepped in front of Gable.
“They’ll regret it? You think that you can stop them?” Abigail laughed shrilly.
Micah rose. That was more than enough of her crap. “She might not be able to, but we can.”
“And I’ll take care of you, because Gable may love you, but you’re interfering with my mating. I won’t let anyone come between me and my men.” Dixie clenched her fists.
“You’re letting her threaten me?” Abigail glanced at Gable.
“You’re threatening a mate bond, Mother. You’re just lucky she hasn’t attacked. Very few people wouldn’t understand the reaction.” Gable gripped Dixie’s hips, holding her in front of him.
“And that’s just a start.” Maddox stood beside them. “If you want to be part of our lives, you’ll leave now.”
“Don’t threaten me, you uneducated grease monkey.” Abigail put a hand on her hip.
Micah glared. The overprotective woman attacked because she wasn’t getting her way. She was also wrong. Maddox might repair motorcycles on occasion, but he wasn’t uneducated.
“Mother, that’s enough. Go home, or you won’t see any of your grandchildren ever. I won’t be returning home for a visit until you acknowledge that I’m an adult. It’s past time you realize that I don’t need protection. I expect you to apologize to both Maddox and Dixie before we see you again. This is my mate, and they are my bond partners. Don’t try to interfere again.” Gable tightened his arms around Dixie.
Dixie bared her teeth at Abigail. Micah raised a brow. That was one pissed-off woman. Her body tensed, and Gable probably had the right idea holding on to her. If Abigail said the wrong thing, Dixie might go after her.
“And you two, start thinking for yourself and stop following every order she gives you.” Micah stepped over and grabbed Dixie’s hand just in case she slipped free of Gable’s hold.
“Out now.” Gable pointed toward the door leading to the hallway. “You three have worn out your welcome.”
“I’ll walk them to the door.” Maddox stepped away. He waved to their guests. “This way, it’s time for you to leave before you have to be carried out the door.”
Abigail, David, and Peter walked to the door without another word. Maddox strolled out into the hallway with them. The door clicked open and then closed with slightly more force than necessary.
“Well, that was interesting. I thought my family was bad.” Dixie shook her head. “I’ll take my brother scaring off potential dates any time.”
“We’ll have to thank him for doing that.” Gable nuzzled her hair, rubbing his cheek over the strands. “I’m sorry about my mother. I don’t know why she has this idea that I’m so helpless.”
“I understand the baby of the family thing, but she takes it to a whole new level. We’ll deal with her together.” Dixie turned in Gable’s arms.
“Yes, we will. She’ll have to find someone else to try to protect. I thought she’d backed off after I met Maddox and Micah, but apparently not.” Gable kissed her cheek.
“And we’ll also handle your brother. He’s at least sane.” Maddox shook his head.
“Ah, don’t worry about him. He’ll be busy for a while. Not only with his house, but Mom found out about the women and more. Big brother has his own problems.” Dixie grinned.
“You didn’t call your mother?” Micah frowned at Dixie. They didn’t need her protecting them like that.
“No, I didn’t have to. Word always gets back to Mom, so don’t be surprised if she learns about things you try to keep secret.” Dixie grinned. “Not that I wouldn’t have informed her if he’d become a pest. And there’s still more I have on him. He has a big secret Mom would not like at all.”
“Dixie, don’t worry about your brother. He’s not that bad and just wants to make sure we protect you. We understand that. But my Mom…” Gable shook his head.
“If we ever find out who’s stalking us, we’ll lay down some new rules with her, because that isn’t flying anymore.” Micah patted Gable’s shoulder. This wasn’t his faul
t.
Chapter Twenty-Three
At last, she could get together with her friends again. Hopefully, today could go smoothly. Dixie put the sandwiches on the platter. Drinks chilled in the refrigerator, ready and waiting. Now, all that remained was for everyone to get here.
It would be nice to have a girls’ day since that damn attacker still lurked out there. No sign of him in the last week, which was good, but still, if he didn’t show up, they couldn’t catch him. It was a double-edged sword. Someone could be hurt each time that bastard came at them, but unless he did, they’d never catch him.
She went to the bathroom and checked her makeup. Still good. Nothing on her blue-and-white shirt or her jeans. She was ready.
Damn, she couldn’t wait to see everyone. She felt so out of touch even though she’d spoken to a couple of them over the last few days. The conversations had been too short.
The doorbell rang. Footsteps thudded on wood floors. That was either Micah or Gable. Both were home today and said they’d get the door when the girls arrived. They hadn’t appreciated her asking if they expected the attacker to come up and ring the doorbell. Apparently, the attacks had dented their sense of humor.
“Hey, girl, you’re looking good. Sex any time you want it must agree with you.” Shonna strolled into the room. She looked vibrant in her bright red shirt and dark blue jeans.
“I think it agrees with just about any woman.” Dixie laughed. “I know that satisfaction looks really good on my men.”
“Yeah, yeah, rub it in. I will eventually find my man.” Shonna reached over and ruffled Dixie’s hair. “And once I do, he might walk funny for a while.
Dixie reached up and smoothed down her curls. “Hey, it’s hard enough to keep this from sticking up as if I’ve been shocked.”
“Honeybear, you look gorgeous regardless of how your hair is.” Micah strolled up beside her and dropped a kiss on her cheek. “When Chloe gets here, we’ll be in the den with Tony and Jason. So if you need us, just call.”
