  His arm tightened around her and his lips brushed her forehead. “That was too close. I’ll be sticking close to you in the next few days. I almost lost you.”

  She nuzzled her cheek against his shoulder, savoring the contact. She knew what he meant. Those emotions still felt so strong. “I was so afraid.”

  “You’re safe, now.” Jagger pulled her until she was almost lying on top of him.

  She looked up at him and met his eyes. She had to say this even though he was assuring her that he’d protect her. He needed to know. “I was afraid, but not for me. I didn’t want to lose the chance with you. It could have all been gone and I’d never have tried.”

  “But it didn’t. We arrived in time. I’m not about to let you slip away now, my mate. After having to be patient and try not to scare you away, I’m ready to really start enjoying my time with my mate.” He cupped the back of her head, his fingers tangling and tugging at her hair so that she met his eyes.

  “It made me realize that my fear was holding me back. I knew I loved you.” She swallowed hard, admitting that part wasn’t easy even though she’d decided to tell him “There’s so much I’m not sure about, but I can’t walk away from this. Not because you won’t let me, stubborn man that you are. Because I need you, and even though I don’t know how it will work, I’m going to work and learn. What we have is too good to give up.”

  He smiled. “I love you too, and when you have doubts, I’m going to keep at you until you remember that. Sometimes I’ll argue and fight with you until you realize it and other times, I’ll fuck you until you’re so full of pleasure you can’t think about giving up and walking away.”

  Her hand smacked his chest and she shook her head. He was probably right about her having doubts at times, but he could have left it at “I love you.”
